random Thursday morning observations:

* last night Andy came over for dinner and i made fried chicken and cole slaw. i discovered, thanks to my girl Paula Deen, that the key to nearly all dishes (and especially those of Southern Origin) is my man Pete. Texas Pete. and lots of him!

*i think if you win a radio contest and can't summon the energy to sound excited on the air, then you should have your prize taken away. a lady on Kiss 108 this morning won tickets to see Kelly Clarkson and a chance to win a BMW convertible and she was like "oh.....okay". like she didn't mean to be the 15th caller on Kiss 108, like she thought she was calling the time or something and just happened to misdial. you won something that other people wanted!!! at least have the decency to sound SOMEWHAT psyched about it.

*i have only seen the show "Silver Spoons" 3 or 4 times in my life, and it has been the SAME EPISODE each time (the one with Whitney Houston in it). why is this?

* i used to think it was tacky to chill red wine but i feel very differently now. Last night I bought a bottle of Ca' del Solo's Big House Red (which incidentally is a really nice red table wine) and on a whim it put on ice and it was DIVINE. essentially it is Sangria without the fruit. I reccomend trying it. It also cuts down on the "red face" factor that red wines can have on certain folks (like moi).

* i discovered heaven in a plastic cup, and it is a Large Coconut Iced Coffee from Dunks with a shot of espresso in it. the taste change is subtle, but the extra caffeine really packs a punch. a GOOD punch. one of my coworkers got a shot in her iced coffee yesterday (i didn't even know you COULD do that at Dunks) and it is her love of it that inspired me. so i ordered one today and the guy behind me in line muttered "this isn't f*cking Starbucks" and i turned around and said "Fuck you it's not like i ordered a half-caf caramel macchiato with skim". just kidding, i really didn't say that but i wish i had.

*by this time tomorrow i will be in PHILLY! (or in the air, near Philly)

1. Texas Pete is like a lifeline in our home
2. I always seem to catch the episode of the Fresh Prince of Bel Air where Will changes his name to Raphael de la Ghetto
3. Ca'del Solo is a REALLY nice red, I chill red wine all the time, except for when my in-laws are over
4. I had that EXACT ice coffee this morning - rock on!

No lie--Matty really DID take a prize away once. A few months ago they were giving away front-row Nelly tickets and he and Billy we like, "This is a huge prize." Right before they asked for callers, Matty said, "Don't call if you don't like Nelly, because if I don't think you really want to go, I won't give them to you." So they picked up caller whatever and she sounded pretty middle-aged and clueless about the whole thing, and Matty said, "What's the weather like where you are?" He wanted her to say, "It's gettin' hot in hrrr," but she didn't so he hung up on her!! Then he hung up on some other lady, and finally they asked the third caller, "What's the weather like," and the guy started singing the song and stuff. It was awesome, because seriously? Front row Nelly tickets? That's a big prize. And a lot of people called in pissed but Matty didn't care because he said the same thing as you, that people call just to call and that's not fair.

Also, I've heard the blueberry iced is quite good too...

In response to the comment you left me - yes! George Carlin did do that cool spoken/rap thing. It was weird, but interesting.

FYI

Texas Pete also makes two other products(among its many) which I have found to be unique:(1) It makes a condiment--the name of which escapes me--that comes in a small jar not unlike that of a facial creams for women(think Ponds, etc.) that, when mixed with potato salad, egg salad, etc., gives them a "kick" not achieved in any other way. And (2) their red shrimp/seafood cocktail sauce is somehow slightly different and better than any on the market. I find their hot sauce that you rave about to be unremarkable--but then I live in New Orleans.

I'm sitting here at work drinking a coconut iced cofee with a shot of espresso. It is pretty darn good. Thanks.

I was JUST thinking about the Silver Spoons thing the other day...well many days because it ALWAYS friggin' happens to me, especially with shows I never watch, like "Buffy" or Everybody Loves Raymond". Weird.

And shout out for Paula Deen, Y'ALL.

If you can find it, you might enjoy "Tapatio" a mexican hot sauce. Better flavor than "Cholula"--but I don't know how either compares with "Texas Pete".
