two items concerning shoes:
1) i dreamed last night that my grandmother had died and left me her apartment. in my dream, i was dissapointed with being left the apartment because the rent was really high and i couldn't really afford it, but i knew it was her wish that i live there, so i did. and when i moved in i saw that my 6 ft tall shoe rack, with all my shoes, had already been moved into the bedroom. (score! that was a pain to move, in real life). and when i looked in the closet...there was a huge pile of shoe boxes FILLED with shoes that were all my style and my size! there were these gorgeous tri colored sandals that laced up the calf, and some adorable pink driving mocs. so apparently my grandmother had left me her apartment knowing that she had stocked the closet with all kinds of shoes for me. when i woke up, for an instant i thought that it was true and that i had all these shoes! but alas, i did not. although when my grandmother died in real life she did leave me some money and i *did* use some of it to buy shoes. but i think it is strange to dream about shoes that you have never seen before.
maybe a voice from beyond (grandmama perhaps?) is telling me to be a shoe designer?
or maybe (more likely) she is just telling me that I need more shoes.
anyway, the next day, inspired by my dream, i went shoe shopping with my mother (we have patched things up between us following the grad school debacle. the saying "shopping heals all wounds" really is true!). we hit the sample sale at Talbot's to take advantage of $92 spring shoes for $7 (only in size 6 and 10..i am really a 9 but in the name of fashion i can fudge my way into a 10..that's why they invented insoles!). and i was searching high and low for this ADORABLE melon colored suede mule with a 1 inch kitten heel that i saw another woman snag from the bin in a size 6. after much rooting around, and a little slapping and poking from the riled up crowd surrounding the bin, i reached success! size 10! and with narrow shoes, i can fit easier into a bigger size and these were definitely narrow. so, clutching my gorgeous spring samples, i waited in line, told the cashier that i was aware they were samples and that i could not return them, paid and left.........and then got home and attempted to change into them to go food shopping with Adam and realized i had bought TWO LEFT FEET! curses!!!
so hopefully the no return rule does not preclude me from exchanging one of my left feet mules for a right feet mules. and hopefully the person who left with two right feet mules realizes it soon and brings them back!
and i have learned anything, it is always try on both shoes at a sample sale.
the end.
