this survey is brough to you courtesy of the fabulous Erin
You're stuck inside Fahrenheit 451, which book character do you want to be?
I know i read this book in 6th grade, but i have no recollection of it at all other than a vague notion of the plot. If i could pick any book character though, I would have to go with either Lady Brett Ashley, the alcoholic socialite in The Sun Also Rises whose claim to fame quote is " "It makes one feel rather good deciding not be a bitch. It's sort of what we have instead of God", OR Elizabeth Bennet from Pride & Prejudice not only because she ends up with Darcy and gets to live in PEMBERLY, but because she Does What She Wants.
Have you ever had a crush on a fictional character?
YES. i think i have had more crushes on fictional charaters than i have on real life people! i will narrow it down to the top three though (in no particular order):
Bayard Sartoris in The Unvanquished: the kind of decent, honorable Southern Gentlemen with enough flaws to keep him interesting
Robert Langdon in Angels and Demons and The Da Vinci Code: a hot, intelligent, worldy professor, what more can you want? (i am appalled that Tom Hanks will be playing him in the movie)
Dominic Birdsey in I Know This Much Is True: this is the most realistic fictional character i have ever encountered. he struggles with all the mistakes he makes, a failed marriage, an insane brother, and i would love to meet him in real life.
The last book you bought is:
Waiting by Ha Jin
The last book you read:
see above
What are you currently reading?
I am re-reading East of Eden for the umpteenth time until I decide what book to start on next.
Five books you would take to a deserted island.
1. East of Eden - John Steinback
2. The Posionwood Bible- Barbara Kingsolver
3. Wuthering Heights - Emily Bronte
4. Pride & Prejudice - Jane Austen
5. I Know This Much Is True - Wally Lamb
Who are you going to pass this stick to (3 persons) and why?
everyone who reads this blog!
looking back, i think i have alot to owe to Oprah's Book Club. when i was in City Year (1998-1999) my good friend Annie and I went out and bought the newest OBC book everytime it as introduced and it was becuase of her that I read I Know This Much is True, The Poisonwood Bible, Memoirs of a Geisha and later East of Eden (i have never read it in high school/college), all of which I loved.
Props, Oprah!
