last night Adam and I were watching Everyone Loves Raymond (i can't help it, i love that show! Robert = my man) and in this episode: the family was at a wedding and ended up having a "discussion"about regrets everyone may have about how they have treated each other.

so, i turned to Adam and asked him what was the one thing he has done/said to his parents that he regrets.

he couldn't even THINK of anything. he sat there for about five full minutes before he said "probably what i regret most is not doing anything for my parents' 25th wedding anniversary".

i was like "um, were you ever a teenager? how can that be the ONLY regrettable thing you have ever done?"

(i feel like i should express the fact that i don't really believe in regret. it really is a usless emotion, but ignore that for now)

maybe i was just a horrible teenager but i know i did alot of BAD things to my parents from the age of 16 to the age of 19. things like: sneaking out, lying, mouthing off hardcore, dissapearing for a whole night without any explanation...things like that. you know, what i think of as normal teenage things. things that, when i look back, make me not want to have kids. or at least to ship them away to boarding school when they turn 12.

so then i asked him what he had done to a friend that he really regretted and again, there was a four or five minute pause..and then he said something about threatening some boy he knew.

when he was in Boy scouts.

when he was 11 years old.

are you serious?

if i had to stop and think about mean things i have said and done over the years, things that if i did regret things i would regret doing/saying, it would take me a loooong time and a few bottles of wine.

i realize it may be that I am just meaner than most. but am i wrong to be a little shocked at this kind of innocence?

really, i don't know why i was so surprised, i mean the boy won't even gossip with me. and i guess that this is just further proof (like we needed anymore) that girls are about 1000 times more snarkier than men (well, straight men). ;-)

If I asked Tony that question, he'd probably have the same reaction. Blank stare for a while, and then he'd probably say something like, "There was that time I left the milk out on the counter when I was 14." He's the angel, I'm the devil. It's all about balance.

I think my parents would have been concerned had I *not* brought some drama to their lives.
