i am out of wine. this is never good.
i probably should lay off the sauce for now, since this weekend was a blend of shit-faced drunkity drunkness and hungover wretchedness. friday night was jeannie's birthday extravaganza. about 15 of us met at houston's for drinks, dinner, more drinks, and martinis. i hadn't eaten much that day, so by my second dirty gin martini i was spouting such wisdom as "jews get to do EVERYTHING" and "my fashion icon for the fall is claire huxtable". after dinner we headed to the comedy connection to watch the comedic stylings of Brian Regan. the man is HILARIOUS ( and i rarely find white, non-Jewish men funny). for thr first half of the show i lcughed so hard that my sides hurt and i was crying into my third martini of the evening. the second half of the show i think i was in some kind of alcohol induced catatonic state because i have no recollection of it. i do know that after the show we went to Plaza III where i spoke only French and switched from martinis to bloody marys. divine.
saturday and sunday i worked at my dad's studio. my father, james, as you know is an artiste. he has a studio in this old factory that has been converted into about 100 shabby chic art studios/spaces, and this weekend was their "Open Studio" weekend, where normal people can come in to each studio, buy art, meet the artists. since james is currently in Paris, it fell upon myself and my mother to open his studion and showcase his art to the public; he dabbles in drawing and painting, but he is primarily a sculptor. so we had oodles of gorgeous pieces to show off, cookies and cidar to give out and little to no knowledge of the pieces we were selling. "Is this alabaster?" someone would ask..."Sure" i would reply, why not? Despite our limited knowledge of our stock, we sold a few pieces over the two days and I think james will be pleased. the studios themselves are GORGEOUS! lots of light, old wood..people were giving out glasses of wine, plates of cheese. i took some time off from my gig as "Art Seller" and perused different people's work. There were alot of painters, some potters, some jewelery makers...it was kind of nice seeing all this non mass-produced work. I bought a print from lucilda, and earrings from a nice bearded man.
i'm kind of into this art deal now. i might take a pottery class with the woman who owns the studio next to my dad's. then, once i get prolific, my dad and i can open up an art store in cohasset. it will be good times.
