this is some shit

i still haven't found out if i am definitely working the week of the convention. most of the "neccessary people" in the office live in the back bay, so commuting is little more than a 1 - 3 block walk. for me, however, commuting entails a 20 minute drive to a T station, and then a 15 minute jaunt on the red line, followed by a 7 minute jaunt on the green line. I get the distinct impression that none of these will be 1) time efficient or 2)sanity-inducing , during the week of the convention. I briefly broached the subject of having that week off a few times with one of my bosses and my concerns were met with laughter folowed by effected concern..so we will see what happens. if by some act of god i get that week off, i am SO out of here. i don't care if i camp on the beach in hull. i am out.

i suppose if adam has that week off too then we can go to his parents place in Maine for that week. we spent last weekend there and it was amazing. I have to say, Old Orchard Beach is like what would happen if you made Brockton a summer community and put it on the cape. It's so fun, and laid back and there are none of the pretentions or LL Bean backpacks that you would find in, say, Dennis. (no offense to Dennis)While we were there, we kept pretty busy: shopping and dinner out oin Portland, karaoke at a sports bar called "Pigs" (where I learned never to underestimate the vocal prowess of a man just because he has a shoulder-length mullet and is sporting a t-shirt that says "Grandpa is my name. Spoiling is my game"), went motor-scooting and played in the arcades by the beach. All in all, a fabulous time was had by all. Now, it took me a while to discern the one true quote of the weekend but i think I have it here.

Me (to Adam's family): I think Adam and I are going to head to P Town some weekend soon
Beth (Adam's brother's fiancee): I thought we were in P Town now? You know...P for Portsmouth?
Me: Beth, Ptown is Provincetown, and we're not n Portsmouth, We're in PortLAND.

haha i love that Beth. I dont blame her, i had my own moments this weekend (misreading the sign "Scenic Beaches as "Science Beaches") and whatnot.
