South Shore Humor

Discussing hometowns over lunch

Coworker: I heard someone say the dumbest thing about Hull the other day
Me: What, did they call it "Brockton By The Sea?"
Coworker: WHAT !!! NO!! HOW DARE YOU!?!!
Me: It's just a joke, I heard someone say that once and I thought it was funny.
Coworker: Whatever it wouldn't be funny if it was about your hometown!
Me: Fine if it makes you feel better you can call Braintree "Weymouth By The T".

(disclaimer: Don't get up in arms, fellow townies. Hull and obviously Braintree (and Weymouth and Brockton) are lovely awesome towns. )

Eh...sometimes my town is called "adobe disneyland" and a fairly large portion of Americans think my state doesn't even exist, so, if it's any comfort, many of us down here (actually UP here - it's 7,000 ft above sea-level!)in the 505 don't know diddly about the difference between one east-coast town and the next one down the line.

Have to disagree. Weymouth and Hull are similar in stature and repuation. The 'tree is better. Luckily I'm in Hingham and can look down my nose at all three.

:-)

By the way, I get attitude from the people in Cohasset (say that through clenched teeth) and the snobs in Deluxbury.

HA Jeff do you have one of those infamous "Townie" stickers on your car?

Haha. My aunt tells everyone she's from Nantasket, as if it's a seperate town. When I ask her if she means Hull she gets pretty pissed. Personally, my favorite nickname is Halitrash (Halifax), but I'm from Stoughton, so I can say stuff like that. At least we don't live on the North Shore....

I guess it's bad that I call Billerica "Somerville in the Woods?"

Halitrash is beautiful. Never heard that before. Norsmell, sure. And Slummerville. And Medfart. And MarshVegas.

We're all nice here in MA.
